TRAIL OF TEARS
The Trail of Tears was a series of forced relocations of the Cherokee people from their ancestral homelands in the southeastern United States to new lands west of the Mississippi River. Multiple detachments followed the so-called Northern Route, which passed through Princeton.
A commemorative park (below) stands near where the Cherokee are believed to have camped during their removal, and is overseen by a local commission.
